Max has served as the Chief Investment Officer of SM Capital, Inc. since 2017 where he has helped engineer the firm’s collaborative culture that has led to success implementing solutions to assist with the most complex transactions.
As Chief Investment Officer, Max is responsible for overseeing the arranging of both debt and equity financing on behalf of the firm’s clients, while also solidifying relationships with key capital sources. Max specializes in working with sophisticated residential and commercial investors on intricate transactions, utilizing the relationships and resources he’s cemented to offer bespoke solutions tailored to meet the needs of each individual situation.
Max's expertise in finance and capital markets links back to his investment banking experience working in Manhattan's financial district. Most recently at Oppenheimer & Co. (OPY), where he engaged in the analysis of alternative investments such as hedge funds, private equity funds, private credit and non-traded real estate investment funds. Prior to Oppenheimer, Max worked for global investment management and research firm, AllianceBernstein Holding L.P. (AB), on the fixed-income trading and sales desk analyzing the mortgage bond market where he oversaw the firm’s proprietary trading portfolio of Mortgage-Backed Securities, (MBS) and Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities, (CMBS).
Max graduated from the Zarb School of Business at Hofstra Universitywith a Bachelor of Business Administration - (BBA) degree in finance. Following his undergraduate degree, Max went on to eventually receive a Master of Business Administration - (MBA) from Columbia Business School at Columbia University.
Outside of his role at SM Capital, Max serves as Editor of REI Market Research, a publication that distributes proprietary research across multiple platforms, in addition to individual collaborations with partners to perform tailored research services for real estate investment firms. Additionally, Max is active in leadership roles within the community, serving on the board of directors for numerous non-for-profit organizations.
